Crops<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f1fd60b elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f1fd60b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axereal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axereal<\/a> is a major agricultural and agro-industrial cooperative group, bringing together nearly 11,000 member farmers and over 3,000 employees. A key player in arable farming in France, the cooperative primarily collects and markets <b>cereals and oilseeds<\/b>, on the French and international markets. Some of these productions are also processed within its own <b>industrial sites<\/b>, particularly in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axiane.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flour<\/a> and in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boortmalt.com\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Malt<\/a>.<\/p><p>Through its territorial roots and structuring role, Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al is directly concerned by the climate transition challenges facing French agriculture.<\/p><p>In this context, for several years the cooperative has been committed to supporting its members towards agricultural practices that are more sustainable, agronomically effective, and economically viable. This commitment is notably part of the initiative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axereal.com\/actualites\/developpement-durable-lagriculture-productive-et-regenerative-cle-de-voute-de-la\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>CultivUp Regenerative<\/b><\/a>, which aims to mobilize 3,000 farmers by 2030 around <b>regenerative agriculture practices applied to arable crops<\/b>.<\/p><p>It is within this dynamic that Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al launched its first labelled collective project in 2024 <b>\u00ab\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/label-bas-carbone.ecologie.gouv.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Low-carbon label<\/a> \u00bb<\/b> (abbreviated to LBC), in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carbonefarmers.com\/en\/accueil\/\">Carbone Farmers<\/a>.The objective of this approach is to decarbonise crops collected by the cooperative., <b>by acting at the scale of farm production systems<\/b>.<\/p><p>This approach aims to <b>measure, certify and value the efforts undertaken by farmers<\/b>, drawing on low-carbon trajectories that integrate both:<\/p><ul><li>The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions\u00a0<\/li><li>the increase in carbon storage in soils.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><div>\u00a0<\/div><p>By valuing the practices implemented, <b>The project allows for a better distribution of transition costs, securing farmer commitment over the long term, and integrating the decarbonisation of arable crops into Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al's strategy.<\/b>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3dd6770 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3dd6770\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-92c7a64 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"92c7a64\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">A low-carbon approach rolled out gradually with Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al's farmers<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46c201d elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"46c201d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Following the launch of its first carbon labelling collective project, Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al has, with Carbone Farmers, structured a decarbonisation approach for the arable crops it collects. This approach has been built progressively, to <b>demonstrate the feasibility of a low-carbon transition on the ground<\/b>, and then extend it to a growing number of farms.<\/p><p>The project is based on a concerted approach with the participating farmers:<\/p><ul><li><b>For each holding<\/b>, a detailed exchange is conducted between Carbone Farmers, the co-operative technician, and the farm manager to <b>Choosing levers to implement<\/b>, taking into account cropping systems and their constraints.<\/li><li>From these choices, some <b>low-carbon trajectories<\/b> are defined, allowing for a realistic estimation of reductions in\u2019<b>Greenhouse gas emissions<\/b> and the<b>\u00a0carbon storage<\/b> associated with the planned changes in practices.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The committed farms thus employ several complementary agronomic levers: <b>Nitrogen management<\/b>, <b>Development of intermediate cutlery<\/b>, <b>Incorporation of legumes into rotations<\/b> You <b>Use of organic inputs<\/b>. These changes in practice aim to improve the carbon footprint at farm level and concern the entire crop rotation.<\/p><p>The process began in <b>Autumn 2023<\/b>\u00a0by a <b>Pilot project<\/b> bringing together fewer than twenty farms, and focusing mainly on the introduction of legumes such as protein peas into rotations. It was then extended to <b>two new cohorts, in 2025 and 2026<\/b>, to expand the number of farmers involved, the territories and the areas concerned. Today, <b>Several hundred farms are participating in the Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al \u2013 Carbone Farmers project<\/b>, spread over a wide area covering Centre-Val-de-Loire and some adjacent departments.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b5e7e59 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"b5e7e59\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1314756 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1314756\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Carbone Farmers' added value, from the collection of agricultural data to its enhancement<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c47970c elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c47970c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The rise of Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al's project with Carbone Farmers is based on a <b>Methodological and operational framework <\/b>designed to support farms in the long term and secure the chosen paths.<\/p><p>Beyond measuring carbon impacts, the challenge is to <b>to structure an approach <\/b>capable of reconciling:<\/p><ul><li>On-site technical support<\/li><li>Data reliability<\/li><li>economic valuation mechanisms<\/li><\/ul><div>\u00a0<\/div><p>It is from this perspective that Carbone Farmers acts as a trusted third party for agricultural sectors to<b> define models, objectify transition costs, mobilise funding and ensure the continuity of commitments throughout the value chain.<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e1e82f5 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e1e82f5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Access to data and its valuation: a key lever for structuring the low-carbon transition<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bb09125 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bb09125\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: inherit; font-family: inherit;\">The structuring of a low-carbon approach relies firstly on<b> access to reliable on-the-ground agricultural data&nbsp;<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: inherit; font-family: inherit;\"><b>traceable<\/b>. Within the scope of the project, this data comes directly from the farms involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The collection covers a set of agronomic and technical data, specifically including <b>inputs<\/b>, the <b>yields <\/b>and the <b>cultural practices<\/b>. These data enable the calculation of\u2019<b>Carbon footprint of farms<\/b>. They are <b>consolidated at the cohort level<\/b> in order to more precisely analyse the impacts associated with changes in practices.<\/p>\n<p>Within the framework of our project, this structured data forms the central support for valuing the efforts of male and female farmers. It makes it possible to lay the necessary foundations for <b>construction of tailored economic valuation models<\/b>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bb611f5 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"bb611f5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">FarmGate Metrics, a platform for driving the low-carbon and regenerative transition<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f0046f3 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f0046f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To exploit and leverage the collected data, Carbone Farmers provides stakeholders with the platform <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.carbonefarmers.com\/en\/notre-technologie\/\">FarmGate Metrics<\/a><\/b>, developed in-house and <b>certified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/fr\/standard\/71206.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ISO 14067<\/a><\/b>. Designed as a<b> Sectoral management tool<\/b>, this platform allows to <b>Transform complex agricultural data into directly usable indicators<\/b> by the actors in the value chain.<\/p><p>FarmGate Metrics <b>Aggregate and structure the data from the farms involved. <\/b>in order to <b>Calculate <\/b>commodity-specific emission factors, integrating greenhouse gas emissions and soil carbon sequestration. This allows for <b>To follow\u00a0<\/b>the evolution of the carbon footprint of productions collected by Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al, from\u00a0<b>visualiser <\/b>associated agronomic performance (yields, areas, volumes) and\u2019<b>analyser<\/b> the breakdown of production by carbon intensity. These indicators offer a detailed view of the trajectories undertaken and facilitate the management of emission reduction efforts.<\/p><p>Beyond environmental monitoring, the platform plays a central role in <b>data valorisation along the downstream value chain<\/b>. Consolidated results make it possible to establish\u00a0<b>annual attestations <\/b>based on the actual performance of farmers, to <b>downstream carbon reporting from companies<\/b> Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al customers, and <b>compatible with repositories <a href=\"https:\/\/ghgprotocol.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GHG Protocol<\/a> <\/b>and <b><a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebasedtargets.org\/sectors\/forest-land-and-agriculture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SBTi FLAG<\/a><\/b>. This traceability strengthens the credibility of commitments and facilitates dialogue between producers, collectors, processors, and distributors.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71c2ab1 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"71c2ab1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Pooling together, a driver of cooperation for a more effective transition<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-396be1a elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"396be1a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why is pooling indispensable?<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4c7585d elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4c7585d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the engaged cohorts, <b>Decarbonisation is being tackled at the farm level as a whole<\/b>. The changes in agricultural practices therefore concern several productions, and not just a single isolated crop.\u00a0<\/p><p>It is therefore essential to <b>to recognise the efforts made across all the farm's produce<\/b>. This valuation is based on <b>two complementary levers<\/b> the\u00a0<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.carbonefarmers.com\/en\/industrie-alimentaire-votre-scope-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">payment of premiums<\/a><\/b>, within the framework of low-carbon value chains developed by Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al, and the <b>generation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoterra.com\/articles\/quest-ce-quun-credit-carbone-en-agriculture#:~:text=Or%20l'agriculture%20dite%20r%C3%A9g%C3%A9n%C3%A9ratrice,et%20vertueuse%20pour%20l'environnement.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">carbon credits<\/a><\/b> as part of the LBC.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a70b4cb elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a70b4cb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Pooling funding at regional and sector level<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-831176a elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"831176a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The <b>cost of transition <\/b>towards low-carbon practices can be significant for farms. In this context, a valuation based solely on a premium linked to a single commodity or a single actor may not be enough to cover all the efforts made. The <b>pooling of financing<\/b>, at the scale of territories and value chains, therefore appears as an essential lever. In the Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al x Carbone Farmers project, it was carried out at these two levels:<\/p><ul><li><u>Among actors in the same territory<\/u> several players in the agricultural upstream sector collect data from the same farms (on different productions), in order to add value to more crops and to optimise the sharing and structuring of data.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/li><li><u>Among actors in the same value chain<\/u>\u00a0Some of Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al's downstream customers have pooled their funding to create an end-to-end low-carbon sector, and sometimes even market it to consumers. By adopting an LBC approach, farmers <b>certificate <\/b>improving their carbon footprint, and thus generating carbon credits, <b>of which they remain the owners<\/b>, at the scale of their farm. Carbon credits can be purchased by contributing companies during the 5 years of the project or at its end, based on the projected emission reductions. <b>This allows farmers to be supported from the early stages of their commitment, and to financially secure their transition.<\/b>.<\/p><p><b>Carbone Farmers<\/b>, as <b>Project manager<\/b>, supporting the administrative procedures related to the certification and sale of carbon credits, to ensure the fairest possible selling price. Particular attention is paid to<b> Consistency of carbon data usage<\/b> and at the <b>prevention of any risk of duplicate accounts<\/b> with the climate commitments of the sectors.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aaa745b elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"aaa745b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c1d391a elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c1d391a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Future perspectives: considering all regenerative agriculture indicators<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1732710 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1732710\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The steps taken by Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al and Carbone Farmers have made it possible to <b>laying the foundations for the gradual decarbonisation of large-scale crops<\/b>, drawing on <a href=\"https:\/\/mission-transition-ecologique.beta.gouv.fr\/projets-entreprise\/agroecologie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agroecological practices<\/a>, robust tracking tools and appropriate appreciation mechanisms.<b> The results obtained across the different cohorts confirm the possibility of reconciling agronomic performance, economic viability, and a real reduction in the carbon footprint.<\/b>.<\/p><p>Following on from its commitments, Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al wishes to strengthen the link between its various environmental initiatives and have consolidated management tools at the scale of its supply chains.\u00a0<\/p><p>The data that has been gathered during this project by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carbonefarmers.com\/en\/our-team\/\">our agronomists<\/a> and the Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al teams are dense enough to gradually <b>broaden the performance analysis to include other environmental and agronomic dimensions<\/b>, such as biodiversity, soil quality, water quality, or farm resilience. The tools we are developing, and in particular the FarmGate Metrics platform, allow for the consideration of <b>reinforced articulation between low-carbon pathways and regenerative agriculture approaches<\/b>, in line with Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al's guidelines.<\/p><p>By taking a long-term approach and engaging an increasing number of farmers, Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al and Carbone Farmers' initiative creates new opportunities for low-carbon and regenerative agricultural sectors. He embarked on a low-carbon approach 5 years ago, initially on his own, then with his cooperative, Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al.<\/p><p>Nevertheless, Nicolas Rudeaux's path towards sustainable agriculture began some time ago. His father, from whom he took over the farm, had already stopped ploughing in the 1990s. Indeed, their clay soils, which are fragile and hydromorphic, are not well-suited to frequent ploughing. Nicolas Rudeaux continues with no-till farming, and to complement his approach, systematically plants cover crops between his main crops, a practice he discovered through the Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al carbon group.\u00a0<\/p><p>He also appreciates the carbon group's dynamics and is grateful to Ax\u00e9r\u00e9al for succeeding in building low-carbon supply chains, which allow him to access premiums to encourage him in his transition.<\/p><p>Today, Nicolas Rudeaux is still keen to train in regenerative practices.
